3 Things To Do After Your Car Accident

A car accident can lead to a lot of problems. That's why you want to make sure that you do everything as correctly as possible from the very start of the process after your accident. There are several things that you should do to protect yourself.

Take Notes

Your notes don't have to be extensive, but you want to write down what happened when it is fresh in your mind. Human beings tend to fill in any little gaps in their memory so that they are more complete. It's not anything you do on purpose, it's just the way that your brain works. So, if you write down what happened, or at least the bare bones of it, then you are more likely to not fill in those blanks. You should also ask anyone who was in the car with you to write down their own notes.

Take Pictures

If you can, take pictures of the damage to your car, their car, and any property damage. Sometimes people will try to claim damage that didn't happen in the accident really did happen, which can cause your insurance claim to be slowed down. So take pictures of all the damage. Get as many different angles as you can so that you get all the damage. The easiest way to handle this is to use your phone or other mobile device to take the pictures. If anyone objects to you taking pictures of their car or their property, you will need to respect their wishes and not do it. It's better to just not do it than it is to get into an argument over the situation and making what could be a really tense situation.

Talk to Witnesses

The police will talk to any witnesses that are around, but you can talk to them and get their information too. You don't have to get their story, just ask them their names, addresses, phone numbers, etc. They may not want to give it all to you, but it will never hurt to ask them and it won't ever hurt to get as much information as you possibly can.

When you get into a car accident, it can be a really tense situation that you are trying to handle. Knowing what you can do afterward can help you. Plus, all this information can help you if you have to see an auto accident attorney so that you can take someone to court.

About Me

Texting driver caused my accident

Have you ever picked up your phone and sent or read a text message while you were driving? Do you know just how dangerous that is? All that it takes is one split second for your life to change forever and to change someone else's life forever. I was hit from behind because a well-dressed business man couldn't wait until he was stopped to respond to a text message. I saw him coming in my rear view mirror, but there was nothing that I could do about it. This accident happened over a year ago and I still suffer every day. My blog is filled with information that can help others that have been injured by texting drivers.
